Vendor Spotlight: Accessibility Plus
A recent addition to the business of accessible home modification services, Accessibility Plus owners, Michael and Lisa Burns, have already enjoyed the taste of success. Located in Madison, Wisconsin, the husband and wife team services the surrounding area with the exclusive focus of making homes a safer place for individuals with disabilities or challenges related to aging.
The Burns found there was a demand for this type of service in their community and stepped in to fill that niche in the market. As they say the rest is history!
We decided to focus on accessible home modification services due to the overwhelming need in our community to help individuals stay in their home safely. By starting our own business, we felt that we could do more than most occupational therapy positions or DME (Durable Medical Equipment) providers allow, explains Michael. We can go into clients homes to assess, recommend, oversee and perform home modifications that can help clients to stay where they are, where they are happy, where they are home.
This intimate, family-run business functions without a storefront instead going to the customers front door, where they provide a free home safety assessment for the initial consultation. The assessments are meant to identify and prioritize any safety issues for the client and then products are suggested to eliminate or reduce these hazards.
The services provided by Accessibility Plus go far beyond the recommendation and provision of products; full kitchen and bathroom renovations, widened door frames, entrance ramps, stair lifts, decks and more are all part of their project portfolio.
As Owner and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, Michael Burns says, [We are] a one-stop shop for home safety modification services. We are a community based, family owned and definitely not 9 to 5. We pride ourselves on our flexibility to provide solutions with a quick turnaround for immediate needs.
This past summer the Burns completed their first QRamp installation and QRamp is all about accessibility. Through the process of quoting, delivering and installing, a ramp can be ready for use within a few days. With its simple configuration and exclusive safety features such as its non-slip, grated decking, QRamp is unbeatable in terms of safety and stability.
